Well firstly, sorry to those who got their hopes up that Nismo would unveil this car at Nismo Festival. Evidently it was spied on it’s way out of Fuji not to return until the next private testing session. That is to say, it was completely absent for Sunday the 6th of December which was Festival day.

Doesn’t really matter though because we still have photos enough to make a few good guesses about the upcoming Nismo racer. We’d also like to replay a bunch of photos from our last up close and personal article about the Tokachi 24hrs R35 GT-R for comparison.

First up its obvious that the hood scoop is a new addition, but the the entire hood base was carbon for Tokachi and it seems that there is no variation here on that point.

As for the front end in general, while at first glance it is the same as the Tokachi 24hrs car, if you look closer at the finish and materials used back then, we’ve actually got a completely new generation of bumper. Fully carbon now, each duct seems more fully integrated than before. The front lip spoiler is also revamped into a full carbon version versus the ABS plastic with carbon ducts of the Tokachi car.

The location of the air-jack line input has also shifted sides and become a proper fixture versus the rudimentry previous version.

Around back and its again easy to spot the differences. Theres a entirely new rear bumper in full dry carbon with a rear underspoiler in carbon to match. The previously gorgeous SpecV exhaust has been reduced to meer straight outlets via the path of least resistance.

A rear diff cooler can be seen hiding behind that rear grill also, and not surprising really. It shares this with the Tokachi car but there are some other differences here. The fuel filler for one, it moves from the rear trunk lid to the rear quarter panel window and that itself is replaced by a lightweight lexen window.

Have a browse through the photos to compare, point out anything you spot different. Coming up in part 2 will be some engine bay shots or maybe the interior. We’ll see what kind of mood we’re in at the time.

Import Tuner Magazine has printed their Nismo Tokachi 24hrs endurance Nissan GT-R article online. It’s an interesting piece if you hadn’t read all about this car already so check it out. It includes details on why they built it and exactly what they did to the car to prep it for Japans only 24hr endurance race.

The photos by Dino alone are worth it.

Finally got a up close look at the Tokachi 24hrs Nismo prepared R35 Nissan GT-R this weekend and it’s certainly a cool car. Being the development platform for a number of parts that made it onto the final Nissan Spec-V GT-R as well as the Nismo ClubSport Package the likelyhood that some of these parts look very similar to the Spec-V is high.

So the biggest thing that strikes as you look at the car is the cooling ducts in the front bar. In an endurance race heat is you number one enemy so these ducts provide more airflow to the intercoolers, oil cooler, radiator and brakes. The brake ducts are almost identical to those found on the GT-R Spec-V with the exception of the mounting rivets. The Spec-V will have a much more finished look to it.

The car’s wheels are the Rays forged aluminium 20″ five spoke TE37-like wheels as seen on both the Nismo ClubSport Package and the Spec-V test mule. These are painted black and are wrapped in some Bridgestone RE55S tires which in 20″ sizes are not available yet. A lot of guys questioned if that really existed so I took a closeup of the front tire and yep, they exist alright.

The mirrors are one off dry carbon OEM shape items. Unfortunately this is the only set known to exist to date and will not go into production for the Spec-V. These will most likely make it to the next production class race car but for street they are distinctly unsuitable if not extremely cool. Fortunately the aftermarket will fill the gap left by Nismo here and Zele International have already completed theirs while Mine’s are still developing their final version.

Making our way to the rear of the car brings us to that Nismo exhaust with the distinct dual tips. While these did make it to the Nismo ClubSport Package we’re not expecting the Spec-V to use this exhaust. This particular car’s exhaust is also wrapped in fiberglass heatwrap, this keeps heat in the exhaust improving gas flow inside the exhaust and air temps under the car.

A differential cooler can be seen mounted at the rear also with an aluminium duct feeding it air from underneath. Other carbon NACA ducting can be seen riveted to the carbon undertray. We are yet to see the Spec-V’s carbon undertray for design changes.

Other carbon touches can be seen barely hidden under a thin red vinyl layer such as on the trunk lid. The hood is also carbon but the rear spoiler is standard issue plastic.

Inside, we didn’t get great photos of it, but the dash has carbon MFD surrounds straight from the Spec-V production line and a clean looking roll cage. Race seat and stripped out interior save a bit of weight in here.

The Motul Nismo GTR-World Nissan GT-R was successful in it’s goals today when it completed the Tokachi 24hrs endurance race at Tokachi Speedway in Hokkaido, Japan. The GT-R’s race was full of ups and downs but the Nismo team were able to overcome them all to put in a full on 24hrs of racing. The GT-R finished the race in 21st place from 28 entries putting in 546 laps.

Winning the race was the #50 Petronas Syntium BMW Z4 Coupe Super Taikyu (ST1) car, second was the #28 Petronas Syntium BMW Z4 Coupe Super Taikyu (ST1) car and third place was the #1 ENDLESS ADVAN Z (ST1) car.

The Tokachi 24hrs endurance race is more than halfway completed now and the GT-R has had one hell of a time. It’s still going though which is great news for the team.

Problems started early on, the GT-R has been making frequent pit stops for fuel and during one such pit stop there was a issue with the refueling system causing some dramatic issues. The pit team was forced to fix the problems then and there costing them over 35 minutes in the pits. The car went back out but was many laps down.
