Sport Auto Magazine Nissan GT-R Supertest Result

sport-auto-001

Sport Auto Magazine is the German magazine responsible for what many claim is the definitive independent test of a car at the Nurburgring. Manufacturers test their cars to the standards originally set by the Sport Auto Supertest and publish their results accordingly. The Sport Auto Supertest is then eagerly awaited as an independent verification or challenge of those manufacturers claims.

Sport Auto’s Nissan GT-R Supertest is due to be published in the upcoming weeks having recently been run after the first German / Euro specification Nissan GT-R deliveries. At the hands of editor Horst von Saurma (HvS) the GT-R is rumored to have produced a laptime of 7:38.

It’s no news to our readers that Nissan Chief Test Driver Toshio Suzuki has recently managed to push the GT-R to a 7:26.7 laptime, some 11-12 seconds quicker than HvS. Does this call into doubt the validity of Nissan’s claim? I argue the opposite and actually feel this lends more credibility to Nissan’s laptimes.

Given Suzuki-san’s obvious headstart of having developed the car from the beginning and having made hundreds of laps at the ‘Ring in the GT-R it is not a surprise he is quicker than a magazine editor around the same track. Even if that magazine editor is the veteran of hundreds of his own laps in various other cars.

So Sport Auto manages 7:38 but let’s revive a dead horse for some more beating… Porsche has claimed in the past that they could not do better than 7:54, despite proof from Nissan, and have recently backed themselves again and repeated the comment. Any comment from Porsche on this most recent test….. ?

I do want a sportauto Nissan GT-R laptime video to compare to the 7min 29sec Nissan video. So everyone can understand why sportauto has a slower time. But for now, waiting is the only solution.

A video would be great. A split screen Suzuki vs. HvS comparison would be even better.

I personaly think this is very great news! Horst von Saurma is one of the best drivers on the Ring! If he is able to make a 7:38, (the first testet time from nissan! we were all happy!!!) you can be sure there is not much space for a quicker time. Suzuki san might be able to make 4-6 sec. quicker becaause of his experience with the car. I am very happy with the time! it proves that nissan did not lie and that the car is able to make such times! Good News! greets from germany

this also should that Nissan can build anything if they put their minds to it. Porsche have always been the yardstick about time they pass it to someone else.

By having HvS putting down a time (7:38) better than Porsche’s (7:54) only amounts to the evidence that the GTR can go faster if handled by an appropriate driver (Suzuki). If HvS drives as much as Suzuki (100+ laps) then he can closer to that 7:26 time given that the weather lets him.

It’s fun beating a dead horse especially when that horse is stubborn.

“Any comment from Porsche on this most recent test….. ?”

I hope Porsche panics and calls HvS and Sport Auto a bunch of liars.

That would pretty much seal their fate for every future Supertest with a 911.

Would also be frickin’ hilarious =)

Hey! The test did not come out yet, will be out next month! Porsche would not say anything bad about the Supertest, they know it is proper.
If HvS drives a 7:38 Porsche will accapt that the GTR is very good!

7:38 is a pretty good time but that doesnt mean that the Nissan can do a 7:26, remember that even though the Nissan test driver has been in the program since the beginning HvS has done far more laps than Suzuki. HvS has matched many of the manufacture claims but he has never been off by that much. A more realistic time for the GT-R would be a 7:34 under the hands of Suzuki which is good and even 3 seconds ahead of such an expierienced test driver is an accomplishment.
